After leading the Aggies to an impressive year, Marcel Reed could emerge as a potential Heisman contender in 2026.

The Texas A&M Aggies had a very solid season in 2025 with an 11-2 record and a trip to the College Football Playoff, and their quarterback is getting some recognition as a result.

While some people like it is wrong to hear at first, some think that Aggies field general Marcel Reed could be in the running for the Heisman Trophy next season.

In a recent article by ESPN's Mark Schlabach, he puts together a way-too-early Heisman watch, and one of the guys he mentions that could contend for the prestigious award is Reed.

"Reed returning to Texas A&M is great news for the Aggies," Schlabach writes. "He was a threat anytime he had the ball in his hands last season, when he helped them win their first 11 games. His decision-making needs to improve so he can cut down on his 12 interceptions. He completed only 49.4% of his attempts with five picks on third down, another area for improvement."

Reed led Texas A&M to their first double-digit win season since 2012.

And coincidentally, that is the season that Aggie legend Johnny Manziel won the award. He also did so in his redshirt freshman season, which makes him one of two players ever alongside Jameis Winston to accomplish the feat.

Now Reed will be hoping that he can live up to some of the great Texas A&M quarterbacks like Manziel and win Heisman.

He finished his sophomore season with the team with 3,169 passing yards and 25 passing touchdowns. But he was also able to get it done with his legs by racking up 493 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

If he wants to win the award Reed will perhaps need to improve his efficiency, but that is something that he did from his freshman to his sophomore year.

So it is definitely in the realm of possibility that he could do the same in his junior season.

Running back John David Crow won Texas A&M's first Heisman back in 1957, and Manziel won it in 2012. If Reed can improve upon his impressive year in 2025, then there is a chance he could be the third winner in school history.
