Texas A&M softball kept its hot streak alive Sunday, finishing off an SEC road sweep of Ole Miss with a chaotic 10-9 win in Oxford.
The Aggies now sit at 11-4 in conference play and have won five straight, thanks to a lineup that keeps producing and a team that refuses to crack in late-game pressure.
This one had just about everything. Texas A&M got on the board first when Maddie Sauni drove in Ariel Kowalewski, then watched Ole Miss answer right back.
The real turning point came in the third inning, when KK Dement blasted a grand slam to give the Aggies breathing room and swing momentum hard in their favor.
Dement wasn’t done. After Ole Miss chipped away, the Texas A&M shortstop struck again in the fifth with her second homer of the afternoon, helping the Aggies build what looked like a safer cushion.
It didn’t last long.
Ole Miss made sure this finale stayed uncomfortable, storming back with a huge inning to turn the game into a one-run fight.
That’s when Micaela Wark delivered the biggest insurance of the day. The Aggies’ home run leader crushed her 17th long ball of the season, a three-run shot that pushed Texas A&M back in front 10-6 and gave the visitors a little room to breathe.
Even that wasn’t enough for an easy finish.
The Rebels kept coming in the seventh, putting immediate pressure on the Aggies with traffic on the bases and eventually trimming the lead to 10-9.
Suddenly, the winning run was on base and the sweep was hanging in the balance. Texas A&M handed the ball to veteran Sidne Peters, and she came through in the biggest moment, punching out the final two hitters to end it.
It wasn’t clean, but it was exactly the kind of gritty conference win good teams find a way to finish. Between Dement’s two-homer day, Wark’s power and Peters’ clutch finish, the Aggies left Oxford with three wins and a whole lot of momentum heading into their next road test against Baylor.
