Neimann Lawrence pledged to the Longhorns as a top-10 quarterback in the 2028 class.
The Texas Longhorns got their first class of 2028 commitment out of quarterback Neimann Lawrence, a 6-1, 200-pounder from Plantation, Florida and American Heritage High School.
Lawrence is a 4-star recruit and ranked by multiple platforms as a top-10 quarterback in the country and top-10 overall player in the state for his class.
Lawrence credits his commitment to a recent string of high-profile Longhorns quarterback recruits who have had major success and now are on paths toward the NFL.
"The development was the biggest thing," Lawrence said to Rivals. "The quarterback history they have and the level of coaching at Texas really stood out. The ultimate goal is the next level, and I wanted to put myself in the best position to get there."
Lawrence locked in his commitment shortly after visiting Austin for what he said was the fourth time during his recruitment.
"These last two visits really showed me the level of interest and commitment they had toward me. They stayed true to me and my process, and it just felt like home."
Lawrence, the No. 6-ranked quarterback in 2028 according to On3, possessed close to 40 scholarship offers ahead of his junior season in 2026.
Per to Burnt Orange Nation, Texas was a late addition to his recruitment after seeing him participate in a camp last summer.
From there, the Longhorns have made another quality impression that leads to a signature.
"I’m a city kid, and Austin reminds me of where I grew up," Lawrence said. "The people, the community and the program all made it feel like home. Coach [AJ] Milwee and Coach Sark have shown the same love every single time I’ve visited."
Head coach Steve Sarkisian has turned the Longhorns into a quarterback pipeline with Quinn Ewers finding a way into the NFL, Arch Manning projected to be a first-rounder after this season, and top recruits like 5-star Dia Bell and dual-threat prospect KJ Lacey joining the program. Texas also has 3-star passer Ty Knutson committed out of the 2027 class.
Adding Lawrence to that groups affirms the Longhorns' momentum. Overall, Texas has built five straight top-five recruiting classes since 2022.
"That was the biggest factor," Lawrence said of Sarkisian's success with quarterbacks. "Being coached by someone with that track record and offensive mind is huge for me...
"We built great relationships with a lot of schools, but Texas gave me the best situation for my family and the best fit for me as a player. I can see myself succeeding there and playing at the highest level."
Lawrence sits as the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback prospect in ESPN's 2028 rankings. He transfers to American Heritage after throwing for 1,971 yards and accumulating 32 touchdowns en route to a state championship game appearance.
