Simmons proved his worth for the Longhorns last season, and in this latest mock draft, it stamps him as one of the best pass rushers in the class.
We have just put the 2026 NFL Draft behind us, and it hasn't taken long for the 2027 mock drafts to come out, and of course, the Texas Longhorns feature heavily in the first round.
Arch Manning, Colin Simmons, Cam Coleman, and Trevor Goosby are all expected to go in the first-round, but where is up for debate.
We know Arch will be near the top, but as far as Simmons and Coleman, they could go anywhere.
The need for genuine pass rushers has heated up over the past couple of seasons, and if Simmons can continue his impressive 2025 form this upcoming season, he's got a good chance at being taken high.
In CBS Sports' Chris Hummer's latest mock draft, he's done something a little different and mimicked this year's draft in terms of which positions are taken where.
So, if a quarterback was taken at No. 13, one has to be taken at No. 13 in his mock draft.
And at No. 2 he's got Simmons going to the Miami Dolphins.
"A dominant edge rusher in the SEC since his arrival as a true freshman in 2024, Simmons is a prototype modern edge rusher with great length and elite explosiveness and speed in pursuit," Hummer wrote. "He's posted 21 sacks through two seasons and is also a plus run defender. "
Coming off a stellar 2025 season where he recorded 15.5 tackles for loss and 12.0 sacks from just 13 games, Simmons could be a key defensive piece the Dolphins could build around.
Granted, if Miami is picking at No. 2, it is going to have an awful 2026 season, but Simmons can be part of the change under Jeff Hafley.
Simmons has made his name as an explosive athlete with a relentless motor that allows him to consistently go quarterback hunting...and his stats back that up.
Whether or not that can translate to the NFL is unknown, but draft experts think it could be a swift transition.
And if he does land in Miami, I'd imagine he's going to be getting on the field rather quickly, and maybe as one of the defensive leaders.
