Texas added four-star OT Brian Swanson to its 2027 class, giving Steve Sarkisian another SEC-sized blocker and a major Dallas recruiting win over top rivals.
Texas football just grabbed one of the biggest bodies in the 2027 recruiting cycle, and Brian Swanson is exactly the kind of trench win Steve Sarkisian needs in the SEC.
The South Oak Cliff standout is listed at 6-foot-5.5 and 315 pounds, ranked No. 177 nationally and No. 17 among offensive tackles in the 247Sports Composite.
He picked the Longhorns over Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama, Texas A&M and SMU, which makes this more than another summer commitment. It’s a statement.
Swanson gives Texas a Dallas-area anchor with big-game mileage. South Oak Cliff has become a machine, and Swanson has been part of three straight trips to the Texas state finals.
This isn’t a developmental flyer who looks good only in shorts. This is a massive blocker from a pressure-tested program that expects to play deep into December.
The commitment also keeps building what Kyle Flood wants up front. Swanson joins Kenyon Hemphill-Woods and Jackson Cook in Texas’ 2027 offensive line group, but he arrives as the highest-rated piece of the trio.
Texas still isn’t carrying the same volume as several programs above it in the national rankings, with 14 commitments after Swanson’s pledge.
But that’s also the dangerous part. Sarkisian’s staff has made a habit of closing late, swinging big and turning recruiting boards upside down when the finish line gets closer.
For now, Texas moved up to No. 13 nationally in the 247Sports Composite team rankings, and the Longhorns’ class suddenly looks heavier where it matters most.
In a league that punishes soft fronts, this is the type of pickup that ages well.
