In a major wave through college and professional tennis, the Longhorns load up with a cream-of-the-crop addition to an already stacked lineup.
After another run to the NCAA outdoor championships, the Texas Longhorns have reloaded the men's tennis roster for the upcoming season by signing a former top-200 player in the world.
The school announced this week that Matej Dodig has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement that makes him eligible to compete in college for the first time after a standout young career on the ATP circuit.
"With Matej, there is no doubt that we are adding another extremely high-level player," Texas head coach Bruce Berque said. "Just as important, we are adding another high-character and team-oriented young man. Matej will join our previous signees Tomasz Berkieta and Gabriel Debru, and together they will have a tremendous impact on our program."
Dodig, a 20-year-old native of Croatia, reached a career-high ATP ranking of No. 199 in the world in March of this year. He's competed in all three major tournaments so far in 2026, including a second-round appearance in the recent Wimbledon qualifying tournament.
The new Longhorn also holds a career-high doubles ranking of No. 356 from last year. Dodig's tour success features nine combined titles. He brings international experience as a member of Team Croatia at the 2026 Davis Cup.
In the junior ranks, Dodig demonstrated very quickly that he was capable of competing at the highest level. He reached a high of No. 30 in the world junior rankings and took home seven combined junior titles in singles and doubles.
Dodig's signing comes after Texas landed another young international star in Tomasz Berkieta of Poland, who was a junior singles runner-up at 2024 Roland Garros.
The addition is significant for the top of the Longhorns' lineup as veteran star Sebastian Gorzny graduates.
Gorzny was regularly ranked inside the top 10 in singles nationally throughout the year. He helped knock out his former team, the TCU Horned Frogs, to book a trip to the NCAA Championships, where the Horns ultimately fell 4-3 to Virginia on May 17.
The Austin native began his pro career by winning the USTA American Player Collegiate Wildcard Playoff last month, which gets him an automatic qualifying spot into this year's US Open main draw.
According to Texas Athletics, the Longhorns' 29 victories in the 2026 season tied with the 2019 and 2025 teams for the most in a season since 1975, "while Texas also reached its sixth NCAA Final Four in seven seasons, won the SEC regular season and tournament championships, and captured the program's first ITA National Indoor Championship."
Adding a pro-level talent in Dodig is sure to load up the Longhorns with another roster primed for a title run.
