The Longhorns and Oklahoma do battle in the SEC, and Sarkisian knows a true dogfight awaits his team.

The Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners will do battle at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday as the next chapter of the Red River Rivalry is set to be written.

The Longhorns are 4-0 but have looked a little disjointed on both sides of the ball, yet they keep winning, while the Sooners sit at 2-2 and have been up-and-down themselves.

But this rivalry is so heated that we can often look at the form book and throw it out the window because when these two meet, fireworks happen.

With the Longhorns coming off a bye after their 20-17 win over Tennessee, Steve Sarkisian's team has had over a week to drill down on the details and hopefully emerge as a much more consistent team.

But even with everything swirling around the Longhorns, Sarkisian is under no illusions as to what this game means.

"122nd meeting, pretty amazing when you think about it in that light that Texas and OU have played in the Red River rivalry," Sarkisian said. "I know I say this every year, but I mean it, humbled to be part of this game, it's an honor, it's the best environment, in my opinion, in college football.

"I've been part of a lot of great games, a lot of great rivalries, and this one is as special as they come."

The Longhorns have had bragging rights in this contest of late, winning the last two games in a row while keeping the Sooners to just six and three points in those games.

All the while, Texas has scored a combined 57 points, so it has been a really one-sided game the last two times these teams have met.

But as we stated before, form means nothing in a game like this, and Sark agrees.

"This is always a unique game because you can take record, stats, and all those things and and throw them out the window and you got to play the game and you got to play the game the right way."

So, the next chapter in this historic rivalry is set to be written on Saturday, as the Longhorns and Arch Manning look to keep their undefeated start to the season going, while the Sooners, after getting blown out by Georgia 41-13 last week, look to make a serious SEC statement.
