Texas Tech baseball crushes Penn State 21-6 as Jesse Rusinek, Logan Hughes and Robin Villeneuve power a Red Raiders offensive explosion in Lubbock.

Texas Tech baseball turned Dan Law Field into a launching pad Saturday, demolishing Penn State 21-6 in a run-rule victory that showcased one of the most explosive offenses in college baseball.

The Red Raiders (9-4) wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for seven runs in the first inning and never looking back.

The offensive onslaught continued throughout the afternoon as Texas Tech scored in every inning of the game, delivering its ninth win in the last 10 contests and its fifth run-rule victory of the season.

For fans in Lubbock, the fireworks started almost immediately.

After Penn State grabbed a quick 1-0 lead on a leadoff home run from Cohl Mercado, the Red Raiders answered with a first-inning avalanche. Connor Shouse tied the game with an RBI single before Linkin Garcia followed with another run-scoring hit to put Texas Tech ahead.

The biggest swing of the inning belonged to freshman Jesse Rusinek, who cleared the bases with his first career triple, driving in three runs and igniting the crowd at Dan Law Field. Moments later, Robin Villeneuve crushed a 390-foot home run, capping the seven-run explosion.

Texas Tech’s offense kept pouring it on.

Rusinek finished the day 3-for-4 with two triples and five RBIs, while Villeneuve added four RBIs and his fifth home run of the season.

All-American Logan Hughes also had a huge afternoon, reaching base five times while scoring four runs and blasting a 440-foot three-run homer in the sixth inning.

Meanwhile, shortstop Linkin Garcia continued his impressive start to the season, collecting three hits and two RBIs, bringing his total to 25 RBIs, a number that would rank among the national leaders.

The pitching staff quietly backed up the offensive fireworks.

Starter Connor Mohan struck out six hitters across three innings, helping stabilize the game after the early Penn State homer.

Veteran left-hander Ryan Free followed with 2.1 solid innings out of the bullpen, earning the win while striking out two.

By the time the dust settled, Texas Tech had piled up 21 runs, 14 hits, and three home runs, while the pitching staff combined for 12 strikeouts and only two walks.

The victory also continued the Red Raiders’ dominance at home. Texas Tech improved to 8-1 in Lubbock, outscoring opponents 124-50 at Dan Law Field this season.

With momentum surging, the Red Raiders will look to finish the sweep Sunday when Jonny Lowe takes the mound in the series finale against Penn State.
