Texas Tech women’s golf finished second at the MountainView Collegiate as Denisa Vodickova claimed her first career title and Lauren Zaretsky posted another top-10.
Texas Tech women’s golf delivered one of its strongest performances of the season this weekend, and it was powered by a breakthrough moment from Denisa Vodickova.
The Red Raiders closed with another standout round Sunday and finished second at the MountainView Collegiate, while Vodickova captured her first career individual title with a career-best 54-hole score.
Texas Tech posted a 10-under 278 in the final round, the lowest score in the 16-team field, to finish at 16-under 848 for the tournament.
Only No. 25 Iowa State finished better, leaving the Red Raiders four shots shy of the team title. Even so, the weekend marked one of Texas Tech’s best finishes of the year outside of its fall win at the Red Raider Invitational.
Vodickova was the star of the show. The sophomore put together rounds of 71, 67, and 69 to finish at 9-under 207, giving her the first medalist honors of her college career.
Her second-round 67 matched her career low, and her closing 69 sealed the deal. Just as important, the strong weekend showed a player peaking at the right time. With back-to-back rounds in the 60s, Vodickova now has four sub-70 rounds this season.
Texas Tech also got a major lift from Lauren Zaretsky, who charged into a tie for sixth with a final-round 67. She finished at 6-under 210, recording her fifth top-10 result of the season and the 13th of her career.
Zaretsky has now posted three top-10 finishes in her last four events, giving the Red Raiders another reliable scorer with momentum heading into the final stretch.
Klara Hurtova added a steady finish at 1-under 215 to tie for 17th, while Cameron Freund and Maja Ambroziak rounded out the lineup.
For Texas Tech, this tournament was another sign the Red Raiders are building form at exactly the right time.
With the regular season winding down and the Big 12 Championship approaching, this group looks capable of making real noise.
