Texas Tech women's golf heads to Medinah for the Illini Invitational, looking to build momentum with a veteran lineup against 14 teams in a 54-hole showdown.
Texas Tech women's golf is heading to one of the sport's most recognizable venues with an opportunity to make another statement about the program's growing expectations.
The Red Raiders will compete in the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, October 12-13, at Medinah Country Club outside Chicago. The 54-hole tournament features 15 teams, including Big 12 rival TCU, Missouri, Ole Miss, Illinois and UCF.
For head coach JoJo Robertson, it's another opportunity to measure a roster blending NCAA Championship experience with promising newcomers.
Texas Tech enters its third fall tournament following a seventh-place finish at The Bruzzy and a runner-up performance at the Red Raider Invitational in Lubbock.
That improvement provides momentum as the competition gets tougher.
Junior Tarini Bhoga leads the five-player lineup, joined by seniors Maja Ambroziak, Cameron Freund and Klara Hurtova, along with freshman Parat Sukanant. Freshman Angel Yin will compete individually.
The experience of Ambroziak, Freund and Hurtova could prove particularly valuable. All three represented Texas Tech at last season's NCAA Championships in Carlsbad, California, helping the program reach the national championship tournament for just the fifth time in school history.
Now the challenge is doing something the Red Raiders have never accomplished: qualifying for consecutive NCAA Championships.
Robertson, entering her 17th season at Texas Tech, has guided the program to four of its five national championship appearances. Her latest roster features four returning players and five newcomers, creating an intriguing combination of leadership and fresh talent.
Medinah presents a memorable setting for that pursuit.
Founded in the 1920s, the prestigious Chicago-area club has hosted some of professional golf's biggest events, including multiple U.S. Opens, PGA Championships and the 2012 Ryder Cup.
The club also hosted the 2026 Presidents Cup just weeks ago, although the Red Raiders will compete on Course No. 2 rather than the championship Course No. 3.
The tournament begins Monday with 36 holes and an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. Tuesday's final 18 holes begin at 9 a.m. CT.
Each team fields five golfers, with its four lowest scores counting toward the team total in each round.
After Medinah, Texas Tech will close its fall schedule October 19-21 at The Fin in Fairfield, Texas.
With a veteran foundation, emerging talent and another NCAA Championship appearance in its sights, Texas Tech has an opportunity to turn its early-season progress into something significant.
A strong showing at Medinah would be another step toward establishing the Red Raiders as a consistent national contender.
