Texas Tech is drawing lots of eyes ahead of another anticipated season, but one group of Red Raiders may be going severely unnoticed.
Texas Tech is poised to have another tremendous run this year after bursting onto the scene last season
Much has changed from that title-winning squad, but the culture inside the locker room in Lubbock seems to be very much the same.
As well as the talent level that resides within it following another successful stint of recruiting, retention and refilling through the transfer portal.
While the Red Raiders are at top of mind and have eyes all over their latest lineup, there is one group that may be slipping between the cracks.
And that could be a serious oversight for those keeping up with Texas Tech and a costly mistake for the teams facing off against it.
According to PFF College, two of the nation's top returning receivers in the Big 12 lie with Texas Tech in Jalen Jones and Donte Lee Jr.
Jones ranks second with a grade of 89.6 behind only UCF's Josh Derry at 89.9 and Lee is a little further down in ninth at 80.2.
Both Jones and Lee are new to Texas Tech, joining in the latest batch of transfer portal additions.
Jones comes from Alabama State, where he was an FCS All-American and All-SWAC First Teamer this past season. Lee made the switch from Liberty and was the Flames' leading receiver in his last outing.
Although the duo have been showing out in the lower ranks of the sport, they look primed to showcase their skills on the biggest stage.
Outside of the pair, Coy Eakin also bolsters the receiver room after serving as a sure target for Behren Morton and others. And plenty of other names adorn the roster for the Red Raiders.
With so much evident skill coursing throughout the position for Texas Tech, it seems like a sure bet that it will boast one of the strongest groups in the conference and possibly the nation.
But that fact appears to be getting lost in the mix of so many other more intriguing or prominent areas around the field.
Even tight end Terrance Carter Jr. is garnering most of the attention and has been touted as the best pass catcher on the field, which is all for good reason and could very much come to be correct.
Most know Texas Tech is set to be a good team and many expect to see fireworks from the reigning Big 12 champions. But many may not know just how deep and talented this latest group until they see them in action.
And this group of wide receivers may be the biggest example of the true threats that are lurking out of the spotlight for the Red Raiders.
