Not only is the Tulane Green Wave continuing to grow its Class of 2026 recruits, but they're working on the Class of 2027 on the gridiron by filling a position of need.
On Tuesday, quarterback Kingston Johnson took to social media to announce his commitment to the Green Wave. This marks the first 2027 commit for the team.
Johnson is a standout signal-caller for the Starkville High School Yellow Jackets in Mississippi. He helped lead his team to a 6-5 overall record in 2025, including an appearance in the first round of the MHSAA Class 7A playoffs.
According to MaxPreps, Johnson had a solid junior year with the Yellow Jackets, passing for 2,510 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season -- that's an average of 228.2 yards per game. Additionally, he totaled 104 carries for 488 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
Johnson held three other offers at the time of his commitment. He chose Tulane over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils and Murray State Racers.
While this is the first player from the Class of 2027 to officially commit to the Green Wave, the program has been actively in pursuit of standout athletes within that class. According to On3 Sports, Tulane has offered 127 gridiron standouts, though a handful have since announced commitments to other schools. The majority of these student-athletes have shown interest in certain programs, with Tulane among those schools for a few of them.
One player that has significant interest in heading to Uptown -- though he hasn't officially committed yet -- is 2027 quarterback Kellen Hall. On3 predicts that there's an 87-percent chance that he will eventually choose to join the Green Wave, with roughly a 7-percent chance that he goes to Southern Miss and 6-percent chance that he ends up with the Oklahoma State Cowboys. As more teams offer, things could continue to change.
Hall is a three-star signal-caller out of Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and the Magnolia State's No. 22-overall player. He helped lead the Warriors to a 9-4 record, a district title and a second-round appearance in the MSHAA Class 7A playoffs in 2025. The signal-caller wrapped up his senior season with 2,079 total passing yards and 34 touchdowns to just four interceptions, according to his MaxPreps profile.
Moore also played in nine games as as sophomore in the 2024 season, finishing with 2,144 yards, 20 touchdowns and four interceptions.
The addition of Johnson and interest from other standout player bodes well for the Green Wave as it enters the Will Hall era. More players are expected to announce their next-level commitments in the next few months.
