UCF Head Coach Scott Frost Takes Credit For 41-9 Loss

Following a crushing Space Game collapse against Baylor, the Knights search for answers as their postseason hopes flicker and a beat-up roster struggles to find offensive consistency.

After picking up one of the biggest wins in program history against then-ranked No. 2 BYU, UCF disappointed at home against Baylor, falling 41-9 in a one-sided affair.

The loss marks the second-straight Space Game loss after a near-decade long streak of winning on the Knights' themed game, and stunts the momentum from beating a top-2 team in the country.

Following the loss, head coach Scott Frost talked about what went wrong, saying that the team got "whipped" tonight, and taking the blame for not having them ready and energized to play.

For Frost, who was given national coaching honors last week, this loss continues a streak of inconsistency since his return to the program, especially in Big 12 play.

"I apologize to UCF fans, I want to win a space game," Frost said.

Last season, UCF had a much-better showing against a better team in Houston, falling 30-27 despite three interceptions from defensive back Phillip Dunnam.

Coming into this year's game, UCF was seemingly in a good spot against a Baylor team fresh off firing head coach Dave Aranda.

But, interim head coach Joe Klanderman, who was previously the program's defensive coordinator, had the Bears ready to go.

UCF was dominated in all three facets of the game, being held out of the endzone and failing to string together stops.

Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway had a big night, throwing for 319 yards and four touchdowns against the Knights' beat-up secondary.

After a slow offensive first quarter from both sides, the Bears quickly jumped out to a two-score lead in the second, and never looked back.

Starting quarterback Keyone Jenkins struggled throughout the first half, throwing for just 84 yards and an interception before going down with an injury.

This opened the door for Alonza Barnett III to re-enter his starting role, but he also struggled, completing just 8-of-16 passes for 133 yards.

Now sitting at 4-4, the Knights will need to win two of their next four games to earn a postseason bid/bowl game, and give Frost some sign of growth heading into the offseason.

UCF's schedule does lighten up after some difficult matchups, taking on Kansas, Arizona State, Iowa State, and Colorado to close out the season.

Entering the first matchup with Kansas, who is coming off of a bye week, the Knights and Frost will have some soul searching to do.

UCF is back in action Saturday, Nov. 7.
