Solo Ball did not play last Sunday due to a wrist issue.

UConn guard Solo Ball will be back on the court Wednesday after missing one game with a wrist injury, coach Dan Hurley told reporters on Monday.

The No. 4-ranked Huskies will meet Xavier in Cincinnati on New Year’s Eve.

Ball did not play Dec. 21 when UConn defeated DePaul 72-54. In the game prior to that one,  a 79-60 victory against Butler on Dec. 16, Ball scored a career-high 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting.

The 6-foot-4 Ball leads the Huskies in scoring with an average of 15.4 points per game. He is adding 3.5 rebounds per game.

UConn senior Alex Karaban said the Huskies missed Ball in the DePaul game.

“(Ball) just opens up the court so much,” Karaban said, per the Associated Press. “So definitely not having Solo probably hurt us in the beginning, but we found a way. I think whenever we have injuries we're always going to find a way and it'll make us stronger later down the season.”

Ball, a junior, had a stellar 2024-25 season, his first as a full-time starter.

In 35 games, he averaged 14.4 points and 3.6 rebounds and shot 41.4% from the 3-point line.

In his UConn career (86 games, 57 starts), Ball has averages of 9.5 points and 2.4 rebounds to go with a 42.6% shooting percentage.

Huskies notebook

Because of the limited schedule during Christmas week, there was no AP Top 25 poll issued Monday. It will return next Monday, Jan. 5. UConn remains No. 4.

The Huskies stand at 12-1 (2-0) Big East. Their only defeat came Nov. 19, losing 71-67 to current No. 1 Arizona.

UConn is the only Big East team ranked in the Top 25, meaning UConn has no games on its schedule in the rest of the regular season against a currently-ranked program.

The Huskies are 7-5 all-time against Xavier, including a 6-4 record as members of the Big East.

UConn will host Marquette on Jan. 7 at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn. The Huskies will be playing their first game in the campus arena since Dec. 5
