The sophomore guard was recognized for a pair of lights-out performances for the Washington women's basketball team

The Washington Huskies women's basketball team is rolling.

The Huskies have won three-straight games, including a 64-52 victory against the then-No. 6 (now No. 9) Michigan Wolverines. The Dawgs were awarded for their ranked win and clocked in at No. 23 after being unranked in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll.

A large part of Washington's success over the last several games has been sophomore guard Avery Howell, who was recently honored with a major weekly award.

Howell was named the National Player of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Tuesday for her performances in the team's last two games against Big Ten rivals the Northwestern Wildcats and Michigan, respectively.

Against the Wildcats, the Boise, Idaho, native posted a new career-high of 23 points on an 8-for-12 mark from the field, including a 6-for-9 clip from 3-point range. She added five rebounds and three steals.

MORE HUSKIES STORIES:

Howell continued her stellar performance against the Wolverines. She scored 22 points on a 9-for-14 mark from the floor (2-for-3 from beyond the arc). She posted another career-high with 16 rebounds for the double-double and added two steals.

Howell transferred to the Huskies after spending her freshman season with Southern California (USC). In the past several games, she has emerged as the team's No. 2, or even "1B" option behind junior guard Sayvia Sellers.

For the season, Howell has appeared in all 14 of the team's games and is averaging 13.8 points per game on 48.9% shooting from the floor and has connected on 44.4% of her shots from 3-point range.

Howell is also averaging 7.9 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.4 assists per game, respectively.

Howell's 3-point percentage leads the team. Her points per game are second on the squad behind Sellers' 18.6. Howell's rebounds per game is the most on the team, ahead of freshman forward Brynn McGaughy (4.9 per game) and senior center Yulia Grabovskaia (4.7 per  game).

Howell and Washington will have two more games this month against ranked Big Ten opponents.

The Huskies will next be in action against the No. 15 Michigan State Spartans at 6 p.m. PT on Jan. 8 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle.

Washington will then play (currently) unranked Big Ten teams Indiana, Minnesota, Penn State and Rutgers before ending the month with a contest against the No. 8 Maryland Terrapins at 4 p.m. PT on Jan. 28 at Xfinity Center College Park in College Park, Md.
