The Huskies men's basketball team will be continuing to look for new players after several players chose to go elsewhere
The Washington Huskies men's basketball team was able to land a third player via the transfer portal in the current window and earned a commitment from soon-to-be-senior point guard Ryan Beasley (San Francisco).
The current men's basketball transfer portal window is set to close April 21. That deadline will mark the last day players can enter the portal but players who've already entered before the window ends can still find new teams.
Even with players in the portal still free to find new schools beyond the deadline, many of the higher-end talent looking for new programs have made their decisions.
This includes several players that have been hosted by the Huskies.
Here's a quick roundup on the latest news for several Washington candidates:
Drew Fielder, C, Sr.
The Huskies lost their starting two frontcourt players from this past season. Double-double machine and forward Hannes Steinbach declared for the 2026 NBA Draft and rim-protecting center Franck Kepnang entered the portal.
Washington hosted a potential replacement for Steinbach, senior center Drew Fielder (Boise State), earlier this month. Fielder, who began his college career with Georgetown, averaged 14.7 points per game on 54.7% shooting (40.9% from 3-point range) across 32 contests (30 starts) with the Broncos last season. He also averaged 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
Fielder took a visit to the Alabama Crimson Tide and was apparently impressed. He committed to Alabama on Monday, per a report on "X" from On3 Sports reporter Joe Tipton.
Braeden Smith, G, Sr.
Soon-to-be senior guard Braeden Smith, who entered the portal after two years at Gonzaga, was one of several Seattle natives in the portal Washington had reported interest in.
Like Fielder, the Huskies hosted Smith for a visit last week.
The 6-foot, 170-pound guard redshirted his first year with the Bulldogs and saw game action with them for the first time this past season. He averaged 5.1 points on 46.7% shooting across 35 games (18 starts). He also averaged 3.6 assists, 2.2 rebounds and one steal per game.
Smith committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Sunday, per a report on "X" from Tipton.
Mikey Lewis, G, Jr.
One of the most sought-after guards in the portal has been Mikey Lewis, who is looking to find a new home after two seasons with the St. Mary's Gaels.
Smith averaged 13.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists across 33 games (all starts) with the Gaels last year. He averaged 39.8% from the floor (36.8% from beyond the arc).
In this portal window, Lewis has taken visits with Washington, the Oregon Ducks and Vanderbilt Commodores. He had a visit scheduled with the Villanova Wildcats on Sunday that was canceled, per reports.
