Naeshaun Montgomery will chose to stay in the SEC rather than head to the Pacific Northwest

Now that the Demond Williams Jr. saga is behind it, the Washington Huskies football team is hard at work to attempt to make improvements to the team via the transfer portal.

The Huskies have already fortified their trenches with several additions to the defensive line, offensive line and cornerback room, respectively.

Washington is also looking to add to its wide receiver room, which has seen notable departures this offseason.

Unfortunately for the Huskies, one potential addition is now off the board.

Freshman wide receiver Naeshaun Montgomery, who entered the transfer portal after spending his true freshman season at Florida this past year, will stay in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He chose to transfer to Missouri rather than Washington.

Montgomery was a four-star wide receiver in the class of 2025 according to the 247Sports composite. In his true freshman season with the Gators, the 6-foot-1, 189-pond receiver caught three passes for 26 yards.

MORE HUSKIES STORIES:

With the additions on defense and the offensive line, the Huskies main targets in the transfer portal are currently wide receiver and running back.

Washington's leading receiver from this past season, Denzel Boston, will enter the NFL Draft and is projected to be a first-round pick. Freshman receiver Raiden Vines-Bright and sophomore Audric Harris both entered the transfer portal.

The Huskies also lost their two leading running backs. Leading rusher Jonah Coleman will also enter the draft and sophomore Adam Mohammed, who was expected to take over as the No. 1 RB in 2026, also entered the portal.

Washington had fliers out for Montgomery and former 6-foot-3, 210-pound South Alabama wide receiver Jeremy Scott. The latter of the two chose to commit to TCU.

The Huskies are reportedly interested in five-star Ohio State freshman receiver Quincy Porter. They'll be competing with other schools such as Alabama, Miami, UCLA and Notre Dame. Porter is reportedly looking to find a destination where he could be the No. 1 wide receiver, which would fit well with Washington with its depleted wide receiver room.

Porter caught four passes for 59 yards in his true freshman season with the Buckeyes in 2025. Porter is listed at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds.

The Dawgs due have their second-leading receiver returning to the team next season. Freshman Dezmen Roebuck caught 42 passes for 560 yards and seven touchdowns.

Currently, the Huskies' running back room has 2025 freshman Jordan Washington returning. He will be joined by 2026 four-star recruit Brian Bonner and '26 three-star Ansu Sanoe.
