The Huskies wrapped up their homestand and last game before a Big Ten showdown against USC on an emphatic note.

SEATTLE — The No. 21 Washington Huskies women's basketball team wrapped up their five-game homestand on an emphatic note, downing the San Jose Spartans 80-54 on Monday at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The victory improved the Huskies' record to 8-0.

Washington won all five of its recent home games by at least 17 points and by an average of 23.8 points.

Despite the dominant way the Huskies ended the game, the Spartans were within striking distance in the first 10 minutes.

Washington began the game with a 13-2 lead. San Jose State closed out the first quarter on an 8-1 run to cut the deficit down to 14-10 going into the second.

"I think we started out fairly strong today," Huskies coach Tina Langley said after the game Monday. "Then we, again, let someone back in a little bit. So I think it's just the consistency of (intention). ... Just being in the moment, focused on the process and not getting loose with what we're doing. I thought we were quick to do that today, we did that last game as well, so it's an area we want to continue to work on."

After the first quarter, Washington was able to dictate the pace of the game and never let up.

The Huskies closed out the first half strong and outscored the Spartans 26-11. The Dawgs went into halftime with a 40-21 lead.

Junior guard and Washington leading scorer Sayvia Sellers scored 13 points in the first half. She finished with 29 points on 9-for-16 shooting (5-for-10 from 3-point range; 6-for-6 from the free-throw line) and added six rebounds, three assists, a block and a steal.

"We were talking about it in our (closed meeting) before the coaches got in," Sellers said in a postgame interview. "I thought the bigs did a really good job setting screens and the guards did, too. So I thought I was able to get open in a lot more action. I think that was the first thing, just setting screens. And being confident, shooting the ball well."

San Jose was able to keep pace with the  Huskies for the third quarter and outscored Washington 25-23.

The first half ultimately proved to be too much for the Spartans to overcome despite their solid third quarter.

Washington outscored San Jose State 17-8 in the fourth en route to the 80-54 victory.

Sellers was joined in double-digits by sophomore guard Avery Howell and freshman forward Brynn McGaughy.

Howell finished the game with 17 points on 5-for-10 shooting (4-for-8 from beyond the arc), six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals.

McGaughy put up 15 points on a 6-for-11 clip from the floor and had eight rebounds, two assists and four blocks.

The Huskies will next be in action in their first Big Ten game of the season against No. 16 USC at 5 p.m. PT on Dec. 7 at Galen Center in Los Angeles.

"Really early in the season, non-conference," Langley said. "It's always an interesting time to play a conference game in the middle of your non-conference (schedule). So we look forward to seeing what we're gonna learn in the process. It's so early in the year, you know there's a lot of things that you need to be better in ... but that's why we play the games, so it can keep giving us information that will help us grow as we move forward."
