The Washington Huskies men's soccer team returned to Seattle triumphant heroes on Dec. 16.
The Huskies won the first national championship in program history on Monday against the North Carolina State Wolfpack at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
Washington beat North Carolina State 3-2 in overtime after the Wolfpack came back to tie the match 2-2 with two second-half goals.
The Huskies men's team national championship win gave it a 16-6-2 win on the season. Both men's and women's soccer teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the respective national tournaments. The men's team became the first team in program history to win six road games in a tournament.
On Tuesday, at Husky Stadium in Seattle, the soccer team returned to the Pacific Northwest and was greeted by fans.

Fans weren't the only ones to greet the men's soccer team Tuesday.
Washington football coach Jedd Fisch and athletic director Pat Chun were also present to welcome back the national champions Tuesday. Fisch and the football team were days removed from a 38-10 win against the Boise State Broncos in the Los Angeles Bowl on Dec. 13.
The men's soccer team is the first team under the Washington athletics umbrella to win an NCAA national champion since the women's rowing team won in 2019. The women's rowing varsity four and junior varsity eight won a national title in 2021.
The men's soccer team is the first national champion in Chun's tenure as athletic director. He was hired to his current role before the university's first year in the Big Ten in 2024.
"We know that we play for the fans in Seattle and our families, but when you finally get off the bus and see everyone that’s here to support you, it’s just incredible," Washington captain Joe Dale said in a story written by Sophia Vesely of the Seattle Times. "The support that UW has is unmatched. I’m left with a really grateful feeling."
This season is the fifth time the Huskies men's team has finished with 15 wins or better since head coach Jamie Clark was hired in 2011. It was the second time the program has advanced to the national championship game under Clark (2021 being the other season) and fifth time the program has made it to the NCAA quarterfinals. All of the team's quarterfinal berths have been with Clark as the head coach.
