The Huskies second-year coach could return to the Wolverines, where he spent two seasons as a position coach.

The Washington Huskies football team is set to play the Boise State Broncos in the Los Angeles Bowl at 5 p.m. PT on Dec. 13 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

A victory would give Washington a nine-win season for the fourth time in five years. But the Huskies could be without their head coach Jedd Fisch.

A recent report from college football analyst Koby Wellington said that Fisch, currently in his second year as Washington's head coach, is the Michigan Wolverines' "top candidate" for its vacant head coaching job.

According to Wellington's report, Fisch is the only candidate Michigan has engaged with since it fired former head coach Sherrone Moore on Wednesday.

Fisch was also mentioned as a potential candidate for the Wolverines by The Athletic's Chris Vannini, in addition to current Alabama (and former Huskies) head coach Kalen DeBoer.

This isn't the first major head coaching vacancy where Fisch's name has been floated out as a candidate.

Before the program hired Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall as for its own respective coaching vacancy, Fisch was reportedly up for the Florida Gators' head coaching vacancy. Fisch graduated from Florida and began his coaching career there as a graduate assistant.

Fisch also has coaching experience at Michigan. He was the program's quarterbacks coach, wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator for two years (2015-16).

If Fisch were to be hired by the Wolverines, it would mark his third head coaching stop in five years.

Fisch received his first head coaching opportunity with the Arizona Wildcats. He headed that program from 2021-23. After the 2023-24 season, Fisch was hired by the Huskies and oversaw the team's first year in the Big Ten last season.

A potential move to Michigan could have massive implications on the 2026 recruiting classes for both teams.

Both the Wolverines and Washington have top 12 recruiting classes in the nation. Michigan has the 11th-best class in the country, which ranked fourth in the Big Ten according to 247Sports. The Huskies have the 12th-best recruiting class in the country, which ranks fifth in the Big Ten. It's the highest nationally-ranked recruiting class in program history.

Due to how soon Washington's bowl game is against Boise State, Fisch could wait until after the weekend to make a potential decision on the Wolverines job. If he were to accept the role before the bowl game, someone else will likely take the headset for the Huskies against the Broncos.
