"It's our job to get ready for Illinois. We're excited for that opportunity. I think they're ranked 22 or 23 in the country. Get to come in here, back at home and looking forward to that game."
The Washington Huskies football team will look to bounce back this week after a disappointing loss against the Michigan Wolverines on Oct. 18.
The Huskies lost to the Wolverines in Michigan Stadium by a score of 24-7. The defeat dropped Washington to 5-2 on the season and 2-2 in the Big Ten.
Washington and Michigan were neck-and-neck with each other through most of three quarters, but uncharacteristic errors cost the Huskies.
Sophomore Washington quarterback Demond Williams Jr., who entered the game having one interception on the year, threw three picks: two in the third quarter and one in the fourth. Williams also fumbled on an attempted fourth-down conversion in the fourth quarter and the Huskies turned the ball over on downs. The team had just five plays on offense in the fourth quarter.
It was an uncharacteristic second-half for Williams and Washington. The team entered the contest as one of the best second-half offensive teams in the conference and one of the best teams in the conference in terms of turning the ball over.
After the loss, Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch he didn't prepare Williams, who's in his first full year as a starter, well enough for the game.
In a news conference on Monday, Fisch expanded more on those comments and took ownership for the team's and Williams' fourth quarter struggled.
"We turned it over and we don't turn it over," Fisch said in the news conference. " ... I don't expect Demond to be in a position where we had the amount of turnovers that we had. He's 19. It's my responsibility as the head coach and the guy that runs the offense to make sure we don't turn it over. I just felt like, clearly, we had a couple turnovers there that we normally wouldn't have. I want to make sure that I continue to do a good job of being one of the best in the country at not turning it over."
Washington will look to bounce back in its next game against No. 23 Illinois at 12:30 p.m. PT on Oct. 25 at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
