Sophomore guard Wesley Yates III and sophomore center Lathan Sommerville missed the team's latest game against San Diego

The Washington Huskies men's basketball team has one more non-conference games left on its schedule before undergoing the gauntlet that is the Big Ten.

Entering Dec. 26, the Huskies are 8-4 with a 1-1 record in Big Ten action. Washington's loss in the conference was an 82-80 defeat against UCLA on Dec. 3 and its win was an 84-76 victory against No. 24 Southern California (USC) on Dec. 6. The Huskies are the only loss on USC's resume this season.

Washington's fourth loss of the year was a 70-66 defeat at the hands of in-city rivals, Seattle University, on Dec. 19 at Climate Pledge Arena.

The Huskies bounced back in an 86-56 win against San Diego on Dec. 22 back home at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The Dawgs pulled off the 30-point victory without two of its best players but, unfortunately, they may be out for an extended period of time.

MORE HUSKIES STORIES:

Sophomore guard Wesley Yates III missed the win against San Diego after suffering a hand injury against Seattle U. Yates played under 11 minutes Dec. 19 before getting pulled.

Sophomore center Lathan Sommerville was also out against San Diego, which led to freshman forward Nikola Dzepina receiving more playing time. The Serbian forward scored seven points, pulled in eight rebounds, dished two assists and had a block.

In a postgame conference Dec. 22, published in a story by Roman Tomashoff of Huskies Wire, Washington head coach Danny Sprinkle wasn't able to clarify when Yates or Sommerville will be eligible to return.

"With those two, I have no idea how long either of them are going to be out," Sprinkle said. "We're still waiting on the test results, and so, praying for both of them, and knock on wood, we'll be able to get them both back at some point in the near future."

Yates is the Huskies' second-leading scorer this season. He's averaging 14.9 points per game on 39.5% shooting from the floor and 33.8% shooting from 3-point range. He's also averaging 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.

Sommerville, the team's backup center behind senior Franck Kepnang, has put up 4.5 points on 40% shooting from the floor and has pulled in 3.5 rebounds per game.

Long-term injuries for Yates and Sommerville would be worst-case scenario for Washington. After the team's last non-conference game against Utah on Dec. 29, three of the Huskies' next five games will be against teams currently ranked within the top 10 in the nation.

Washington will be on the road against No. 5 Purdue on Jan. 7; home against No. 2 Michigan on Jan. 14 and home against No. 9 Michigan State on Jan. 17.
