The Huskies could find themselves with multiple two-sport athletes in the 2027 recruiting class with their continued pursuit of quarterback Caden Jones
The Washington Huskies football team has had one of their best months of the 2027 recruiting cycle already this month.
The Huskies landed their 18th overall commitment of the '27 recruiting class and their first edge rusher via three-star Montvale, N.J., player Chaz Gray.
The first week of the month, Washington landed two four-star wide receivers in the form of Tre Moore and Dontay Tyson Jr.
Tyson and Gray were both on official visits from May 29-31 at UW's campus in Seattle.
The Huskies continued to host uncommitted recruits for official visits from June 5-7 on Montlake, and the team is reportedly ramping up its recruitment for an intriguing two-sport athlete.
One of the players who was on campus for official visits this past weekend was quarterback Caden Jones.
Jones, who attends Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine, Calif., is a three-star signal-caller and is ranked as the 592nd-best overall player, 36th-best quarterback and 46th-best player in California in his class per the 247Sports composite.
Jones completed 74.8% of his passes for 3,044 yards, 30 touchdowns and just one interception in his junior season this past fall. He also ran 31 times for 261 yards and another score.
Jones, who's listed at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, has been predicted to commit to the Arizona Wildcats for weeks now. His brother, linebacker Carter Jones, currently attends Arizona.
Currently, 247Sports Crystal Ball projection has Jones committing to the Wildcats. Rivals.com's prediction model has Arizona with a 91.5% chance to land him.
According to a report from Adam Gorney of Rivals.com, Jones is "seriously" considering Washington in his recruitment.
Jones' commitment would also have a benefit for another UW athletic program, as well.
Jones also plays basketball for Crean Lutheran and has been extended an offer from Huskies men's basketball team Danny Sprinkle.
The Huskies have continued to ramp up their pursuit of Jones despite having a quarterback committed in the Class of '27.
Washington earned a commitment earlier this offseason from four-star quarterback Blake Roskopf, who attends Desert Edge High School in Goodyear, Ariz., and is teammates with another UW commit and Desert Edge attendee, four-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney.
Roskopf is ranked as the 152nd best overall player, 12th-best quarterback and fourth-best player in Arizona in the class, per the 247Sports composite.
Currently, UW has two quarterbacks on the roster with game experience: starter and junior Demond Williams Jr. and presumptive backup, Stanford transfer and redshirt sophomore Elijah Brown.
Given the nature of the transfer portal, loading up on quarterbacks in the 2027 class (and potentially beyond) could be a fruitful strategy for the Huskies.
