The Huskies seem to be targeting Evan Mack amidst recent losses for other defensive backs
The Washington Huskies football team has been unable to add several Class of 2027 graduates to their future secondary in recent days.
The Huskies lost four-star safety Gavin Williams to the Southern California (USC) Trojans and four-star safety Malakai Taufoou to archrivals, the Oregon Ducks. To make matters worse, both teams play against Washington in the Big Ten.
The Huskies were unable to land the four-star defensive backs, but they still remain in the thick of it for several other cornerbacks and safeties.
Washington is reportedly the front-runners for two-sport (football and baseball) athlete and four-star safety Jaden Walk-Green and is one of the final teams being considered by three-star cornerback/athlete Jeovanni Henley.
While the Huskies could land either one of those two players and bolster the recruiting class (and the baseball team's roster in Walk-Green's case), the program is also gearing for a push for another three-star defensive back.
According to a report by Roman Tomashoff of Huskies Wire, Washington secondary coach John Richardson has been making sure to keep tabs on 6-foot-3, 175-pound cornerback Evan Mack.
Mack, who attends Crean Lutheran High School in Irvine, Calif., has been a target for head coach Jedd Fisch and the rest of the coaching staff for a "long time," per Tomashoff's report.
Mack has taken several unofficial visits to the Huskies campus and several members of the UW staff have taken visits to Crean Lutheran this offseason, which included a talk and visit with the high school corner.
Mack is ranked as the 587th-best overall player, 58th-best cornerback and 46th-best player from California in the class, per the 247Sports composite.
Despite outside of the top 500 nationally, Mack has combined an impressive offer list, which includes Arizona, Kansas, Arkansas, Michigan, Miami, Tennessee and Texas A&M, among others.
Mack's size plays into what defensive coordinator Ryan Walters has looked for over the last two seasons. Last year's starters and 2026 NFL draft picks Tacario Davis and Ephesians Prysock are both 6-foot-4 and this year's projected starters, Dylan Robinson and Emmanuel Karnley, are both 6-foot-3.
Mack currently doesn't have an official visit lined up, which could possibly indicate that UW will have time to make a final push to land the lengthy cornerback.
Rivals.com's prediction model currently has Washington with the fourth-best odds to land Mack. Arizona has the highest odds at 23.9%, San Diego State has a 20.3% chance, Arizona State has a 17.4% chance and the Huskies and Kansas both have a 14.5% chance to earn a commitment from Mack.
