The Washington Huskies football team's 2027 recruiting class was unable to land another top recruiting target on Saturday.

To make matters worse, the Huskies lost on that recruit to an archrival.

Four-star safety Malakai Taufoou announced his commitment in a livestream on the Rivals YouTube channel on Saturday.

Taufoou made his decision between Washington, the Oregon Ducks, the Cal Golden Bears and Penn State Nittany Lions. Taufoou opted to commit to Oregon.

Entering Saturday, Rivals.com's prediction model predicted Taufoou to commit to Cal, where his older brother, Will Taufoou, played.

Taufoou is ranked as the 406th best overall player, 36th-best safety and 35th best player in California in the 2027 class, per the 247Sports composite.

Taufoou plays at Junipero Serro High School in San Mateo, Calif. In his junior season this past year, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound defensive back registered 50 total tackles, including six tackles for loss, four interceptions and three pass breakups.

Taufoou is the third four-star defensive back the Huskies have lost to the Ducks. Four-star cornerback Josiah Molden, who has familial ties to both Pacific Northwest schools, opted to commit to Oregon earlier this offseason.

Washington also lost out on four-star safety Gavin Williams, who committed to Southern California (USC) earlier this month.

The Huskies recruiting class is currently ranked 13th in the country, per 247Sports. Taufoou's commitment put the Ducks over UW.

The 12 teams ranked ahead of Washington are, in order: Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Miami, Penn State, Florida, UCLA, USC, Kentucky, Ohio State, Oregon and Michigan.

Washington currently has 15 commitments in its '27 class: four-star defensive linemen Jon Ioane and Tevita Nonu, four-star quarterback Blake Roskopf, four-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney, three-star wide receiver Braylon Pope, three-star safety Isala Aisa Wily-Ava, three-star tight end Zach Albright, three-star cornerback/athlete Maurice Williams, three-star running back Jeremy Adeyanju, three-star interior offensive lineman Reis Russell, three-star defensive lineman Matamatagi Uiagalelei and three-star linebackers Isaiah Leilua, Ethan Coach, Justin Coach and Titus Osterman.

Despite not being able to land two of their top safety targets, the Huskies could get another big boost in the coming weeks, including Zion White, Osani Gayles, Tre Moore and Dontay Tyson Jr.

Washington has also been named as a finalist for four-star offensive lineman DaJohn Yarborough and three-star cornerback Jeovanni Henley.

Many of those aforementioned players won't make their decisions until June, but if UW is able to land them, it could jump over the Ducks once again in the recruiting rankings.
