Guards Mikey Lewis, Daniel Freitag, Tijan Saine and Gavin Sykes have either been in contact or have visits scheduled with the Huskies
The NCAA men's basketball world is currently in the middle of the nation-wide transfer portal window, which is set to conclude April 21. And the Washington Huskies are right in the thick of the recruitment for several intriguing transfers.
The Huskies will be looking to replace more than half of its roster from this past year. UW currently has seven players listed on the team for the 2026-27 season. Eight players from 2025-26 have either transferred out or ran out of eligibility.
The Huskies are well-at-work trying to find those replacements. They've already hosted and/or are scheduled to host several players for visits. According to reports, Washington is also in contact with several intriguing guards currently in the portal.
Here's a run down of four guards the Huskies are reported to be interested in:
Gavin Sykes, G, Long Beach State
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard is coming off an impressive true freshman season with Long Beach State.
The Sacramento, Calif., native scored 19.4 points per game in 28 games (26 starts) on 47.3% shooting (38.7% from 3-point range) with the Beach. He pulled in three rebounds and dished 1.5 assists per contest.
Per a report on "X" from the Athletic's Tobias Bass, Sykes has hear from UW, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Gonzaga, Indiana, North Carolina State and Virginia Tech and has conducted Zoom meetings with all teams before scheduling visits.
Daniel Freitag, G, Buffalo
Freitag, a 6-foot-2, 192-pound, soon-to-be-junior could be looking for a return to the Big Ten after a one-year excursion in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) with Buffalo.
In his sophomore year this past season, Freitag averaged 19.8 points per game on 41.1% shooting (36.1% from beyond the arc) across 23 contests (22 starts). He also averaged 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.
Freitag, a three-star Class of 2024 recruit out of Minneapolis, originally committed to Wisconsin amidst offers from Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State and Notre Dame, among others.
Freitag opted to transfer to the Bulls after playing just 14 games and averaging two minutes per contest his freshman year with the Badgers.

Mikey Lewis, G, St. Mary's
The soon-to-be-junior guard will be looking for a new home after two seasons with the Gaels, both of which ended in the NCAA tournament.
According to a report on "X" from CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein, Lewis has a visit scheduled with the Huskies and Vanderbilt next weekend.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard averaged 13.9 points on 39.8% shooting from the floor (36.8% from 3-point range) across 33 games (all starts) in addition to 2.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest this past season.
Tijan Saine, G, Weber State
A potential transfer to Washington would serve as a homecoming for the Everett, Wash., native. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound soon-to-be-senior spent three seasons with NCAA Division-II club Western Washington before transferring to Big Sky school Weber State this past year.
In his lone year with the Wildcats, Saine averaged 17.5 points in 32 games (all starts) on 45.4% shooting. He also averaged 4.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.
According to a post on "X" from Dylan Lutey, Saine's recruitment is "wide open" and he's had a call with the Huskies.
