The Huskies men's basketball team wasn't included in Tyran Stokes' list of final teams

The Washington Huskies men's basketball team entered this offseason needing to replace roughly half the roster.

The Huskies have seen several players, including guards Zoom Diallo, JJ Mandaquit and Courtland Muldrew and center Franck Kepnang, enter the transfer portal this offseason. Forwards Hannes Steinbach and Bryson Tucker are looking to take their talents to the NBA.

Between those aforementioned contributors, and graduating players such as Quimari Peterson and Jacob Ogancevic, UW has been hard at work trying to field a roster for the 2026-27 season.

Washington has made several additions via the portal: forward Steele Venters and guards Parker Friedrichsen and Ryan Beasley will all suit up for the Dawgs next season.

Despite the portal window deadline being Tuesday, the Huskies will likely make several more additions via the portal. Players already entered before the April 21 deadline can still commit after the fact.

However, one thing that has hindered Washington in its roster reconstruction is not having a commit from the graduating 2026 high school class. And one potential get for the Huskies seems to have cut UW from his list of potential destinations.

The near-consensus No. 1 player in the Class of 2026, 6-foot-7, 230-pound small forward Tyran Stokes, released his list of the final three teams he's considering Monday. Those teams were the Oregon Ducks, Kentucky Wildcats and Kansas Jayhawks.

Stokes, a 2026 McDonald's All-American, played his senior year for Rainier Beach High School in Seattle.

Due to his proximity to the Huskies' campus, several members of UW's coaching staff went out to watch Stokes' games throughout last season and were reportedly in the mix to land the No. 1 recruit. In addition to the three aforementioned finalists and Washington, Stokes was also reportedly considering the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Stokes has been predicted to commit to Kansas for months according to 247Sports' Crystal Ball projections.

Stokes recently competed at the 2026 Jordan Brand Classic on April 17. He scored 29 points, pulled in nine rebounds, dished seven assists and had three blocks.

Losing out on the top player in the '26 class is a tough break for head coach Danny Sprinkle and the program, but it isn't completely out of the running for a blue chip recruit.

The No. 6 player in the class (per 247Sports), 6-foot-5, 190-pound combo guard Dylan Mingo, re-opened his recruitment and decommitted from the North Carolina Tar Heels following the program's firing of head coach Hubert Davis.

Mingo had Penn State, Baylor and the Huskies as his finalists in addition to North Carolina before he committed.
