Three-star defensive back Jeovanni Henley opted to join the Cal Golden Bears over several teams, including the Huskies
The Washington Huskies football team has earned impressive commitments from the Class of 2027 over the last week.
Both commits the Huskies have received over the last week have been four-star wide receivers: Tre Moore on June 2 and Dontay Tyson Jr. on Friday.
Washington is currently in the midst of several consecutive weekends of official visits, in which the program will hope to land several of its top remaining targets in the '27 recruiting class.
Unfortunately for the Huskies, one of the players they were among the finalists for opted to go for a current Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) team and former Pac-12 rival.
On Saturday, three-star defensive back Jeovanni Henley opted to commit to the Cal Golden Bears. He chose Cal over other finalists including Washington and the Texas Longhorns.
Henley attends Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, Calif., just a 30-mile drive away from the Golden Bears' campus in Berkeley, Calif.
Henley is the cousin of a player Washington faced when it was still in the Pac-12, current Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Daiyan Henley. He played for the Washington State Cougars in 2022.
The younger of the two Henleys is ranked as the 1,309th-best overall player, 103rd-best athlete and 113rd-best player in California per the 247Sports composite.
Henley's designation as an athlete is in large part due to his versatility as a defensive back, which is what made him an intriguing target for the Huskies.
Henley played slot cornerback, outside cornerback and safety for Junipero Serra his junior season this past fall. The 6-foot, 170-pound defensive back registered 65 total tackles (52 solo), including 9.5 tackles for loss per MaxPreps. He also had five sacks, two interceptions, six passes defended and one fumble recovery.
Henley also played running back this past fall, which could make him a candidate to go back on punt or kick returns to utilize his ball-carrier abilities.
Despite not earning a commitment from Henley, Washington's '27 recruiting class is still in a great spot.
The Huskies recruiting class ranks 16th in the country per 247Sports. The 15 teams ranked ahead of Washington are, in order: Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Miami, Florida, Notre Dame, Clemson, Penn State, UCLA, Virginia Tech, Southern California (USC), Ohio State, Oregon, Minnesota, Michigan and Kentucky.
The Huskies are currently hosting several recruiting targets on campus for official visits. Washington's '27 recruiting class has a good opportunity to receive a higher ranking before the cycle has ended.
