The Huskies will honor Hamant, who died in November due to complications from kidney cancer, Jan. 6 at Alaska Airlines Arena.

Earlier this year, the Washington Huskies suffered a loss in their athletic family.

Women's soccer goalkeeper Mia Hamant, who had been a part of the team since 2022, but was forced to miss the 2025 season, died Nov. 6 due to complications from a rare form of kidney cancer. She was 21-years-old.

Since Hamant's death, several Washington programs have honored her via video memorials, pregame moments of silence and putting on orange lights at respective arenas and stadiums.

Orange is the color of kidney cancer awareness.

Several Washington opponents have also honored Hamant.

Various National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) teams also honored Hamant by wearing wrist bands inscribed with "M.H." initials and orange ribbons.

While Hamant was fighting cancer, her team embarked on a Cinderella run in the 2025 NCAA women's soccer tournament.

Washington, which entered the NCAA Tournament ranked 13th in the country, made it all the way to the quarterfinals of the tournament. Along the way, they beat No. 4 Arkansas and No. 7 Virginia.

The Huskies' run came to an end in a 3-0 loss to No. 11 Duke on Nov. 28.

Despite the loss, Hamant's impact on the team was felt throughout the season and the tournament. And that impact extended beyond the women's soccer team and Washington athletics into the greater sports world.

And fans, students and others will have a chance to honor the life of Hamant in 2026.

The Huskies will host a celebration of life for her on Jan. 6 at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. According to a news release put out by the Washington athletic program, doors for the event will open at 3:30 p.m. PT and the program will begin at 4 p.m. PT.

Huskies staff will be on the concourse at Alaska Airlines Arena to collect cards, flowers and written messages addressed to Hamant's family.

Those who can't make the event in person but want to watch can do so at this link.

Those who wish to send video messages to the Hamant family can do so at this link.

Anyone who wishes to send flowers or cards ahead of the celebration of life can do so at the following address: University of Washington Athletics - Graves Hall Attn: Hamant Family 3910 Montlake Blvd NE Seattle, WA 98105.
