The Washington men's and women's soccer programs are coming off their best collective seasons in their respective histories.
The Huskies men's team won its first-ever NCAA national championship after beating North Carolina State 3-2 in overtime on Dec. 15. Washington became the first team in NCAA tournament history to win six road matches in a single tournament.
The women's team had an incredible season in its own right.
The Washington women's soccer team won just the second regular season conference title in program history and won the first postseason conference tournament ever. It was the first regular season title for the women's team since joining the Big Ten in 2024. The team finished the year with a 15-3-7 record and lost just one match in Big Ten play.
The women's team advanced all the way to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals before falling 3-0 to Duke. It was the third quarterfinal berth the team has ever made.
The head coach of the program, Nicole Van Dyke, was awarded with a long-term contract extension. The Huskies announced a new deal with Van Dyke that will have her coaching the program through 2030, according to a news release Dec. 22.
"I'm grateful for the trust and belief placed in me by Director of Athletics Pat Chun and Senior Associate Athletic Director Nina Keaney, and excited about the future of women's soccer here at Washington," Van Dyke said in the news release. "The community we have here is unmatched, and this program is strengthened by incredible people in the department - coaches, staff, and administration - who show up every day to put our teams in a position to be successful."
Van Dyke was hired as the head coach of the program in 2020. Since she took over, she's led the team to four seasons of 10 wins or better. She's guided the program to three NCAA Tournament appearances in six seasons. The program made it to the Round of 16 in two of those berths.
Van Dyke has coached 15 all-conference honorees in her six years at the helm. Of the program's seven All-Americans (per United Soccer Coaches), three have been coaches by Van Dyke: Summer Yates (2020), Alex Buck (2025) and Kolo Suliafu (2025).
"We've built something special, and as we continue to elevate this program, development and TEAM will always be at the heart of everything that we do," Van Dyke said in the news release. "The women in our program are an inspiration; they excel in the classroom, give back to the community, and represent the program with pride, passion, and purpose. Being a part of these women's lives and helping them achieve their goals is one of the greatest gifts of coaching, and to do that here at Washington, in Seattle, with Husky Nation behind us, is unbelievably rewarding."
