The Huskies earned a commitment from former Kentucky Wildcat forward Kaelyn Carroll
The Washington Huskies women's basketball team entered this offseason coming off its best season in nearly a decade.
The Huskies won their first NCAA tournament game since the Kelsey Plum-led Dawgs did so in '17 before ultimately falling 82-79 in overtime to the TCU Horned Frogs in the Round of 32.
The opening round victory in the tournament also doubled as the first-ever NCAA tourney win for head coach Tina Langley, who's made it three times with two different programs (once with the Rice Owls and twice with Washington).
The Huskies saw eight players subtracted from the roster this offseason between graduations and transfer portal departures.
UW has filled four of those vacated spots this offseason.
Washington earned a commitment from four-star Class of 2026 guard Amayah Garcia last year. She remains the only commitment for the program from the '26 class.
The Huskies have also landed three players via the portal: junior forward Tilda Trygger (North Carolina State), junior guard Brooke Carlson (Colorado State) and senior guard and UW legacy Macey Huard (Oklahoma State).
The transfer portal window closed April 20 but players already in the portal are still able to commit to new schools.
Washington was able to find its fifth new player for the '26-27 season and landed its fourth player via the portal — sophomore forward Kaelyn Carroll — via a post on "X" from On3 Sports reporter Talia Goodman.
The 6-foot-3 front court player will join the Huskies after one year of college ball with the Kentucky Wildcats of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
In her freshman season, Carroll played in all 34 of Kentucky's games but didn't start. She averaged 3.4 points per game on 35% shooting in addition to 2.2 rebounds. She averaged 11.8 minutes per contest.
Carroll's best game came in a nonconference matchup against the Wright State Raiders on Dec. 19. She scored a career-high 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting and added five rebounds and two steals. All six of her makes from the field were from 3-point range.
Carroll will likely be a player off the bench who can space the floor for Washington.
Langley and the rest of the coaching staff likely has its two starting front court players in Trygger and returning Big Ten All-Freshman forward Brynn McGaughy.
Caroll wasn't able to finish her freshman season with an efficient clip from beyond the arc (30.9%) but 3-point shooting is still considered a strength of her game.
Caroll's addition will give UW shooting off the bench as well as a player who could benefit from size mismatches.
