Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is keeping receipts. After Keyshawn Johnson questioned his decision-making and ball security, the young signal-caller fired back with a pointed social media response.
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams uses social media just like everyone else.
That also means he sees and hears a lot of the comments that said about him. The 24-year-old won't hesitate to react or comment back at his critiques.
NFL Insider Jordan Schultz had former NFL wide receiver Keyshaun Johnson on his show "The Schultz Report." Schultz asked Johsnon to rank Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels. Johnson chose Daniels first, followed by Maye and then Williams.
Schultz asked Johnson what makes him hesistant about the Bears' quarterback.
"Second time around in Ben Johnson's offense, correct the mistakes, cleanup the mess that you were in last year and take the steps forward," Johnson said. "He threw the ball at times in situations that he shouldn't have been thrown a ball in, he turned the ball over at times that he shouldn't have been turning the ball in. Now, if he makes those same mistakes again this year that he made last year, and now this is your second go around in the Ben Johnson system, now you're goona have me have calls for reservation about who you are as a quarterback."
Williams saw the minute Instagram reel and liked the video -- something the Bears' quarterback has done in the past when people who have critiqued his play.
Outside of the preseason, the last time Williams played football was in the Divisional Round against the Los Angeles Rams. Williams threw three interceptions in the 20-17 overtime loss. He also had two more interceptions against the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card victory.
He had just eight total turnovers in the regular season. As a rookie, Williams threw just six interceptions and lost two fumbles. He's not someone who turns the ball over. Has Williams been lucky with his low turnover numbers?
According to Pro Football Focus, he was the eighth luckiest quarterback in football last season. The former NFL wide receiver also shared that he's been around 1000s of athletes in his life and had this to say.
"If you keep making the same mistakes over and over and over again, that ain't the coaches. That's on you. So, let's see if he can correct those things. If he could correct those things Jordan, I'm all in with him."
Without asking Keyshaun directly, it's to possible to know what repeated mistakes he is referring to. Williams showed improvement from Year 1 to Year 2. With another year in Ben's system, the Bears' quarterback is expected to continue his positive growth.
