Chicago Bears running back Kyle Monangai is recovering from the Week 4 game against the New York Jets, and now his status for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers is in question.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Kyle Monangai is feeling the effects after the Week 4 win over the New York Jets.

The Chicago Bears' running back carried the ball 30 times for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Chicago's offense possessed the ball for 42:45 in last Sunday's game.

Monangai didn't finish the game because of a thumb injury.

“The thumb is not an issue, but he did have 30 carries, and he feels like he had 30 carries," Johnson said on Wednesday.

Monangai has missed two straight days of practice with a thumb/toe injury, and ESPN's Jeremy Fowler shared some more details on Monangai's injuries.

He is "dealing with a turf toe injury, placing uncertainty around his availability over the next 1-2 weeks, per sources, though he’s hoping to play through it and the team/player are still managing the situation," Fowler wrote on X.

Monangai's 324 rushing yards are the seventh most in the NFL. Fellow running back D'Andre Swift is right behind him with 311 yards.

Swift didn't practice on Wednesday but showed some progress on Thursday after being limited with a hip and knee injuries.

Bears offensive coordinator Press Taylor highlighted the ideal workload for both running backs would have them "pretty even [in] carries.

"Then in certain situations, one guy's kind of rolling, you get a chance to give him a little bit more," Taylor said. "Then if the situation comes up where one of them needs to be the lead back, they can do it if they need to. I think we've seen that from Kyle going into last year at Cincinnati as well when Swift wasn’t playing and he was able to kind of carry the load. Swift has obviously shown he can do that. Having both of them - or having as many as we possibly can, we have a lot of faith in that entire room. Any of those guys that we think we could lean on if we needed to and they're up for the challenge.”

Next man up in the Bears' running back room is Roschon Johnson. After Swift fumbled in the third quarter against the Jets, Roschon ran the ball four times for 16 yards.

The Bears also have Salvon Ahmed and Zavier Scott on the practice squad and may need to elevate one of them if Monangai does have to miss the Week 5 matchup against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

Swift has had some uncharacteristic fumbles this season, losing two this year after having just two lost fumbles in the last five seasons.

The veteran running back knows his mistakes this season are not representative of the player he has been throughout his career, and he is looking to "flush" those fumbles and vows it's "over with now."

Swift has his sights on the next game, a road matchup at Lambeau Field against the Packers.

"I see opportunity every week," Swift said. "I got confidence in the guys up front, confidence in Ben calling it and the way we execute, so there is confidence every week no matter who we are facing."
