Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson shared an update on quarterback Caleb Williams and players who are eligible to return from the PUP list.

Despite the Chicago Bears being blown out 31-7  by the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday, the sun rose on Monday morning.

The Bears' (3-2) second loss of the season stings more than usual because it was delivered by Chicago's arch rival, but the team must embody a goldfish mentality and quickly learn from the mistakes and move on to the next opponent -- the Atlanta Falcons (2-3).

Before the Bears begin their preparation for their Week 6 road matchup, here is everything you need to know from head coach Ben Johnson's virtual press conference with the media on Monday.

QB Situation

Quarterback Caleb Williams went through an extensive workout before Sunday's game, testing out different types of throws, including throwing passes on the run.

Johnson was asked about Williams' recovery and the hurdles he still needs to clear to play.

"He’s doing a great job progressing and we’ll see when we can make him available to help us win ball games," Johnson said. "But he’s itching to get back as soon as he can, which is a good thing, and when we get the green light, we’ll move forward from there."

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, "all signs are pointing to Caleb Williams being back on the field this week for Chicago, which considering the way it went this past Sunday, would be quite good news."

The Bears will monitor Williams' health as the week progresses, but if he can't go, what is the plan at quarterback?

"We're still working through that," Johnson said. "No determination has been made in terms of what direction we're going. There's a lot of things that we're assessing right now.”

Tyson Bagent struggled against the Packers and was benched after throwing his second interception in the game. Case Keenum was brought in to provide a spark, according to Johnson.

PUP Players

The Bears will have to make a decision soon on defensive lineman Shemar Turner, who had his 21-day practice window opened on Sept. 23, meaning this Thursday would be the deadline for him to be activated on the 53-man roster. If that doesn't happen, he goes on season-ending IR.

"Yeah, I think we have to make a decision here within the next couple days of whether we want to put him on the 53 or not," Johnson said.

Defensive back Kyler Gordon had his window opened on Sept. 30, meaning the team will have until Oct. 21 to assess when he can officially return to active roster. Here is Johnson's evaluation of the veteran nickel corner.

"I think mentally he’s pretty sharp right now," Johnson said. "We’re, once again, in the middle of this stress test, making sure that he’s physically prepared to play in football games."
