Buffalo Bills swaps Deven Thompkins for 6-foot-5 wideout Quentin Skinner, adding size and divisional familiarity to Josh Allen’s arsenal just as training camp battles begin in Western New York.
The Buffalo Bills made a change to their wide receiver room before training camp starts later this month.
The Bills are making some serious changes to the defensive side of the ball under first-year head coach Joe Brady. New defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard is bringing a 3-4 base defense, a switch-up from the 4-3 scheme Sean McDermott used to run.
The offense should be more of the same with Brady earning the promotion from offensive coordinator to head coach, though the team needs better production from its receiver corps to complement quarterback Josh Allen.
Per the Bills, the team signed receiver Quentin Skinner off waivers from the New York Jets and released Deven Thompkins.
"With training camp on the horizon, the Bills are making a roster move, claiming wide receiver Quentin Skinner off waivers from the New York Jets. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound receiver has one year of NFL experience and played with the Jets in 2025 as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas.
"Skinner appeared in one NFL game, making one catch for 10 yards. In a corresponding move, the Bills released WR Deven Thompkins."
Thompkins signed with the Bills on June 21.
Skinner recorded 80 receptions for 1,584 yards and 11 touchdowns during his four seasons with the Kansas Jayhawks.
During training camp last season, Skinner said he believed he has the skills to be a playmaker in the league.
"Playmaker," Skinner said, via the Jets. "In any way, shape, or form -- inside the slot, outside -- just being a playmaker. From route running, from high-pointing balls, from running deep with speed.
"I think being physical and blocking, too. I think I can check all the boxes. If they put trust in me to go do something, I'm going to go do it."
Skinner's lone reception in the NFL last season came against the Bills. He caught one pass for 10 yards in the Jets' 35-8 loss to the Bills on Jan. 4.
Now Skinner will have the opportunity to prove to the Bills that he can help the team this fall.
