Buffalo bolsters its pass rush by adding the veteran playmaker following a successful visit. The former Chiefs standout brings championship experience and a knack for finding quarterbacks.

Just days after bringing him in for an official visit, the Buffalo Bills have announced that the team has signed veteran edge/linebacker Mike Danna to a one-year contract.

To make room for Danna on the roster, the team released cornerback MJ Devonshire.

Danna joins Buffalo after spending his first six years with the Kansas City Chiefs. In that time, he played in 87 games for the Chiefs, recording 194 tackles, 21.5 sacks, 25 tackles for loss, 51 quarterback hits, six forced fumbles, and an interception. His best year came in 2023 when he put up 6.5 sacks and 13 QB hits to go along with 50 tackles.

In his last season in Kansas City, Danna had just 25 tackles and one sack, both of which were career lows. He also played just 42% of the team's defensive snaps, the lowest total since his rookie season.

With Danna in the mix, Buffalo's roster sits at 91 players. The team has an exception for offensive lineman Travis Clayton due to his being a part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program.

One interesting note about the signing is that Buffalo has Danna listed as a linebacker. In Kansas City, he played defensive end. With the Bills, it appears that head coach Joe Brady and defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard view him as a stand-up linebacker in their system.

This would also suggest the idea that Buffalo wants to have as many options as possible on the roster. Michael Hoecht, who's also expected to play a linebacker role with the team, is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon suffered last season against the Chiefs. With Danna in the fold, it gives Buffalo depth should Hoecht's recovery take longer than expected.
