Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver has been out of action since after Week 1, where it was reported that in practice, a teammate stepped on his foot, causing him to miss some time.
Oliver was seen shortly after walking around the Bills’ facilities in a walking boot firing up concern around Bills Mafia.
But fans are having fun with it, by saying that Oliver actually injured himself by falling off a horse.
Yep. A horse.
During training camp, the Bills were featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks, and it was revealed that Oliver thoroughly enjoyed riding horses. He even owns 30 horses, some of which he rides around town during his off-time like he was in the Wild West.
But just to set the record straight, he wanted to let everyone know that the story of him getting stepped on in practice is the true one.
“I got stepped on in practice. Is that what you heard?” he said on Wednesday. “I heard I fell off a horse, a horse hurt me, all kinds of stuff. But I can promise you somebody stepped on me at practice.”
For those that don’t remember, Oliver was a crucial part to the Bills historic comeback in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens.
He was seemingly the only answer for Ravens’ Derrick Henry, who at the time, ran for 169 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
But Oliver was the catalyst. As the Ravens aimed to run the clock down, while up 40-32 with a little more than three minutes left on the clock, the Ravens handed Henry the ball.
Oliver perfectly placed his hand on the ball and punched it out, forcing the Bills to get back the ball in incredible position.
Even though Buffalo holds a 4-0 record, there’s no better time for its star defensive tackle to return.
The Bills have actually allowed the third most rushing yards in all of football, averaging 164.3 rushing yards allowed per game.
Not only that, one of the franchise’s biggest flaws is their defense. Buffalo has one of the more dynamic offensive attacks in football, but as time has gone on, it’s lost its ability to defend.
Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer got older, Matt Milano is injured quite often, and AJ Epenesa has been just fine.
It’s really been the Oliver and Greg Rousseau show, but since Oliver has been out, Rousseau has had to carry the load.
It seems like Oliver is coming back this week against the Patriots on Sunday Night Football, with coach Sean McDermott saying he and Milano have looked good so far.
Only time will tell. If it’s not this week, then it’ll be the following week.
