Shedeur Sanders made a move this week that appeared to signal those around the league that the quarterback could be shopped before the trade deadline on Nov. 10.

The Cleveland Browns quarterback signed with Adie von Gontard, CEO of Young Money APAA Sports, to represent him.

Sanders, who lost the quarterback battle with Deshaun Watson in training camp, is not expected to be given a chance to start in Cleveland this season with Watson leading the team to a 3-2 record and playing some of his best football since he was traded from the Houston Texans.

Jonathan Jones of The Athletic noted that hiring an agent would help Sanders in the trade market, as a self-represented player could not communicate with league teams interested in making the deal. Von Gontard can speak with any team in the league who has an interest in Sanders.

Jones argued that general manager Andrew Berry isn't expected to deal Sanders before the trade deadline based on multiple conversations the reporter had with people around the league.

Berry is believed to have "great affection" for Sanders, who the Browns took in the fifth round of last year's draft. Cleveland thinks highly of Sanders' ability.

The Browns could part ways with Watson after the season. If that's the case, Cleveland could opt to keep Sanders on the depth chart, at least as a backup. The sense around the league is that the Browns will start a quarterback who isn't currently on the roster in Week 1 of the 2027 regular season.

Sanders didn't put up great stats when he played as a rookie. Because of that, it's unlikely the Browns are going to receive good enough offers to make them give up a valuable backup.

It remains to be seen how patient Sanders will be as the Browns sort out their situation as quarterback.

Certainly, Sanders believes he's capable of being a starter in the NFL. But unless something drastic happens with Watson, it could be a while before Sanders has another chance to start in the league.

Von Gontard has his work cut out for him to put Sanders in a position to start, but that's why the former Colorado Buffaloes standout hired him. Von Gontard can make things interesting for his client by putting some smoke out in the press.

One thing we don't know is how valuable the Browns think Sanders actually is on their team.
