Chargers Sit at the Very Bottom in Latest NFL Power Rankings

The Los Angeles Chargers remain at the bottom in the latest rendition of the NFL power rankings.

The Los Angeles Chargers did not play in Week 7 as they were on their bye week, but even so, this was not a positive week for Los Angeles as they became the final team without a win as the Miami Dolphins were able to defeat the New York Jets.

With that said, the Chargers also stayed at the bottom in the latest edition of the NFL power rankings, which is not at all what this team was hoping for at the start of the 2026 season.

Following the Week 7 results on Thursday and Sunday, Bleacher Report NFL analysts Gary Davenport, Kris Knox, Maurice Moton, and Brent Sobleski put together their Week 8 NFL power rankings, and the Chargers came in at No. 32.

While the Chargers were on their bye and other teams lost, the performance this team not been consistent enough and with Los Angeles being the only team without a win, there is not a reason for these analysts to put the Chargers any higher than No. 32.

Even though the Chargers may be looking to salvage this season, the 0-6 start is not something that gives a lot of optimism that Los Angeles can make the playoffs and Sobleski believes that this team should already be looking toward the future.

Based on the fact that the Chargers are 0-6, Sobleski could be right as even if this team was able to win a few games, falling short of the playoffs and losing out on a top five pick in the first round would not be ideal at all, and would probably be the worst case scenario for this team.

Now, the Chargers do have a few weeks to figure out how they want to handle that as if they can get a much better performance from quarterback Justin Herbert and the offense, it is possible they could string together some wins and be in the hunt for a playoff spot.

But if the losses continue to come, head coach Jim Harbaugh needs to understand that and simply evaluate who could help this team moving forward and who they need to move on from. When it comes to who this team could move on from, that could be veterans Derwin James Jr. and Khalil Mack, who could both be dealt at the trade deadline in order for the Chargers to acquire draft capital, looking ahead to the future.

Additionally, Harbaugh does really need to consider if offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel's offense will fit on this team or if there needs to be a change there as well.

Looking ahead to Week 8, the Chargers will take on the Los Angeles Rams in SoFi Stadium and while the Rams have had a tough start as well, they have showed a lot more promise than the Chargers have and the Rams are actually coming off a solid 35-21 win over the Las Vegas Raider in Week 7.

With all that said, this season has been a real disaster for the Chargers thus far, and if this team cannot figure out a way to pick up a win in Week 8 to try to build some momentum, Los Angeles will likely need to focus on the future, which could mean a lot of change with the November 10th trade deadline coming up very soon.
