INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones was diagnosed with a fibula injury last week before the team's game with the Kansas City Chiefs. Details have now emerged that the injury specifically is a fracture, according to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport:
"Colts QB Daniel Jones, who has been dealing with a lower leg injury, suffered a fracture in his fibula, sources say," Rapoport posted on X. "Jones was a full participant today and one source said, “He looked good.” Jones will continue to try to play through it. Toughness never questioned."
When Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced the injury to reporters last Friday, the very next question was whether the injury was a fracture.
“I'm not going to get into specifics," Steichen said. "It's a fibula, and he's good to go.”
Steichen was then asked whether it would be an injury that Jones has to maintain throughout the remainder of the season.
“I don't know. We'll see," Steichen answered. "I mean, he's ready to go. He was a full participant today (Friday), and he'll be ready to go for Sunday.”
“Yeah, I'm not going to get into the specifics, but he's out there, he's playing, he's practicing, and he's good to go,” Steichen said when asked again early this week.
Jones was a full participant in this Thursday's practice, but Rapoport's comment that Jones looked good is interesting. Colts beat writers James Boyd and Nathan Brown observed Jones missing some reps during individual work (which doesn't count toward the planned amount of team reps), and a video that Boyd shared on X also shows Jones' mobility appearing to be limited:
Outside of the Jones situation, here is how both teams' health is shaping up ahead of Sunday afternoon's matchup.
The Colts held a walkthrough on Wednesday rather than a full practice, so Wednesday's injury report is an estimation.
THURSDAY
All 53 players on the active roster were full participants on Thursday, which is terrific news for a squad that has dealt with its fair share of health issues.
This is the second consecutive week of full practice for Carlies, who has been on Injured Reserve all season with an ankle injury. He was not activated from IR to play last week, but perhaps he will be this week.
WEDNESDAY
THURSDAY
Stroud's back-to-back full participation is the headliner for Houston. However, Anderson popping up on the report is quite noteworthy.
Otherwise, the Texans got improved status from both Autry and Pitre, who are serious contributors to the NFL's No. 1 defense.
The Colts and Texans face off on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET at Lucas Oil Stadium on CBS.
