On the latest episode of the Locked On Colts podcast on the Locked On Podcast Network, hosts Zach Hicks and Jake Arthur give their final preview of the Indianapolis Colts' matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
Among the topics discussed:
This will be a battle of familiarity as Colts head coach Shane Steichen, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon, and defensive coordinator Nick Rallis were all together with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2021-22. While they all will certainly craft a gameplan with each other in mind, they can't change things too drastically in the matter of a week.
The Cardinals will likely be without quarterback Kyler Murray, as he deals with a foot injury. What does a Colts defensive plan look like with Murray at QB rather than Jacoby Brissett? If Charvarius Ward Sr. locks down Marvin Harrison Jr., the Colts can then allocate ample resources to tight end Trey McBride.
The Cardinals' defense is the strength of their team, displaying unique coverages and toughness, but the Colts match up well with what Arizona throws at teams. Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce -- returning from a concussion -- and tight end Tyler Warren could be significant contributors in this one.
The Cardinals rank well against the run, holding teams to 3.9 yards per carry. However, the Colts' strategy of passing early to set up a second-half ground assault with Jonathan Taylor works in Indy's favor.
The Colts host the Cardinals at 1:00 p.m. E.T. on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. The game can be viewed on FOX.
