The Washington Commanders have undergone another batch of roster cuts ahead of the 6 PM deadline on Sunday
After undergoing the first round of roster cuts on Saturday, the Washington Commanders have released additional pieces as they work to trim down to the 53-man roster limit ahead of Sunday's 6 PM deadline.
LB Krys Barnes
Roughly two weeks after signing with the team, Barnes will look to latch on elsewhere in 2026 after stints with the Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals.
OL Daniel Brunskill
One of three linemen who signed with the team after a workout, Brunskill was one who offered versatility with center experience and guard depth.
DL Byron Cowart
The former Auburn and Maryland product stuck out in preseason and training camp where the veteran drew intrigue as a potential depth piece along the interior defensive line with Johnny Newton expected to miss significant time into the regular season. Cowart arrived in mid-August following a workout with the team.
CB Fred Davis II
The undrafted rookie free agent was injured this offseason before being activated off the active/NFI list back on July 29.
C Julian Good-Jones
With all the attention at center, the Commanders are turning their attention elsewhere to round out depth in 2026 after releasing Julian Good-Jones on Sunday. The former practice squad lineman struggled both in preseason and training camp, casting doubt on his value on the final roster.
QB Sam Hartman
After two seasons with the team and being passed over at the end of 2025, Hartman will now head to the waiver wire. He completed 72% of his passes for 131 yards during preseason, though was outperformed by rookie Athan Kaliakmanis during preseason.
RB Robert Henry Jr.
The UDFA addition dazzled in the preseason opener with 75 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, but struggled in the two games since including a fumble. Whether he or Reynolds remain on the practice squad will be worth watching.
C Trey Hill
One of the several linemen the Commanders signed this month, the former Tennessee center had a shot to provide depth at a position of need but saw both Julian Good-Jones and Matt Gulbin draw the bulk of reps through training camp and preseason, making him expendable.
NT Jeffrey M'Ba
The one-time local product was among the undrafted free agents to sign with Washington following the 2026 NFL Draft, electing to ink in the NFL despite being drafted in the second round of the 2026 CFL Global Draft.
RB Craig Reynolds
Two weeks after inking with the team, Reynolds now heads back into free agency -- for now. What happens in the running back room beyond Bill Croskey-Merritt, Rachaad White and likely Kaytron Allen is a question mark. Washington has already released Jerome Ford with an injury designation, while Jeremy McNichols remains sidelined with a quad injury after missing the bulk of training camp. Reynolds also has experience in a Ben Johnson offense to add to his fit, making him an intriguing practice squad candidate.
OL Max Scharping
Another veteran lineman who arrived with intrigue given the potential fit at both guard and center, but Washington's search to upgrade the interior offensive line continues. Scharping is coming off a torn ACL that sidelined him for the 2025 regular season.
OT Trent Scott
After re-signing on a one year deal back in March, Scott will now look to stick with the organization on the practice squad. Whether he returns to the practice squad for a fourth season with the organization remains unclear, though the Commanders were able to add additional tackle depth after inking DJ Humphries in August.
NT Shy Tuttle
Despite head coach Dan Quinn praising the interior defensive lineman, Tuttle struggled to make an impact during preseason and training camp as the Commanders look elsewhere for depth.
WR Van Jefferson
The veteran receiver was one of two key receivers to suit up in the preseason finale where he was battling for one of the final spots at the position. Could his departure be good news for Luke McCaffrey? Nonetheless, Jefferson drew praise from head coach Dan Quinn this offseason where the veteran will look to latch on elsewhere in 2026.
CB Car'lin Vigers
With the status of Trey Amos unclear, Car'lin Vigers joined Antonio Hamilton as an intriguing addition to the roster, but that won't happen on the 53-man roster. Vigers spent the 2025 season on Washington's practice squad.
