The Washington Commanders have agreed to a new deal with a third offensive lineman who was set to hit free agency

The Big Doug and Carmi Show

The Washington Commanders are bringing back another in the trenches are inking another one year extension.

Versatile offensive lineman Trent Scott is set to return to the Commanders on a new deal, marking his fourth season with the organization.

Scott initially signed a two year contract with Washington back on March 23, 2023 where he appeared in ten games and started at right tackle for the last two games with Andrew Wylie sidelined. He also became a weapon on offense during the 2024 season after it was Scott who ended up catching the first passing touchdown by quarterback Jayden Daniels, lining up as an eligible receiver in the week three Monday Night Football win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Scott also started in the NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2024 while filling in for an injured Sam Cosmi during the divisional round win over the Detroit Lions the week prior.

The addition of Scott gives versatile depth for the Commanders along the offensive line given he is capable of lining up at both guard and tackle, set to round out the rotation.

How the starting offensive line materializes remains to be seen with two vacant starting spots to fill with Chris Paul now a free agent while the front office opted to release Tyler Biadasz after two seasons as the starting center, leading him to land with the Los Angeles Chargers ahead of the legal tampering window.

Washington does have in-house options at both spots in 2026, while general manager Adam Peters is bringing back a pair of longtime teammates and experienced linemen with Andrew Wylie back on a two year deal alongside Nick Allegretti, who became the second of the lineman to agree to an extension.

Prior to his time with Washington, Scott signed a one year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of the 2022 season before being waived as part of the final round of roster cuts, only to be re-signed to the active roster two days later.

Scott spent the 2020 season with the Carolina Panthers are being claimed off waivers, but he would be placed on the reserve/COVID list six weeks later before starting four games at left tackle then inking a one year extension.

He began his NFL career as an undrafted offensive lineman out of Grambling State after signing with the Los Angeles Chargers back in 2018. After being cut and signed to the practice squad as a rookie, Scott materialized into the starting left tackle after Russell Okung was sidelined.
