The Washington Commanders have made another roster decision in the trenches ahead of the official start of the legal tampering window in free agency next week.
Interior offensive lineman Nick Allegretti has reportedly agreed to a new two-year contract with the Commanders, per multiple reports on Monday morning. Tom Pelissero of ESPN was first to report the news.
Allegretti stepped in as the team's starting center in each of the final two games of the 2025 season with Tyler Biadasz, who was released last week in a somewhat surprise of a roster decision, battling injuries to end the year.
He also switched to right guard ahead of the 2025 season after splitting duties at right guard with Andrew Wylie with Sam Cosmi sidelined to begin the season. Wylie previously was a full-time starter at left guard in 2024 and in two seasons with the team, Allegretti started 21 games and appeared in 33 where he will now prove to be a veteran piece at the top of the offensive line rotation in 2026.
Allegretti joined the organization ahead of the 2024 season after inking a three year, $16 million contract to begin the Dan Quinn era. He first began his NFL career with the Kansas City Chiefs where he appeared in 74 games and started 13, becoming a three-time Super Bowl champion in the process after blossoming as a former seventh round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
In 160 pass block reps, Allegretti allowed one sack, two hits, five hurries and eight pressures in 2025, one season after allowing 39 hurries and 46 pressures in his first season with the organization.
The news also makes Allegretti the latest roster decision in the trenches for the Commanders front office ahead of the expected biggest news of it all.
The release of Biadasz adds a need to now find a starting center this offseason, whether in the draft or free agency, with several available candidates. Washington has already re-signed veteran offensive lineman Andrew Wylie to a new deal this offseason, while all eyes have remained fixated on the Laremy Tunsil situation with the expectation that he reaches an extension ahead of the final year of his contract.
“We’re as motivated as ever to get that done,” general manager Adam Peters said at the NFL scouting combine last week, one month after noting the two sides were in “constant communication” about a new deal.
