The talk about adding another wide receiver to round out the 2026 room has remained a constant for the Washington Commanders with both Brandon Aiyuk and Stefon Diggs drawing all the attention among the fanbase, but ESPN pointed to Washington as a fit for another wide receiver who could be staring at a fresh start elsewhere in 2026.

The Commanders were among the four teams that ESPN projected trades centered around wide receiver Keon Coleman with the Buffalo Bills analyzing their options ahead of the regular season. Dan Graziano of ESPN projected that the Commanders' 2028 fifth round pick heads to Buffalo in exchange for Coleman, giving Washington another potential young piece in the offense.

"They need receiver depth behind Terry McLaurin, and this is a low-cost flier on a player with good draft pedigree," Graziano added.

It's a low cost for a player preparing for his third season in the NFL, but Coleman heads into the fall with something to prove after being a healthy scratch in weeks 16 and 17 while drawing criticism from the Bills. The Florida State product arrived as a second round pick in the 2024 draft with hopes of becoming the top target for quarterback Josh Allen in the wake of moving on from Stefon Diggs.

Yet that did not materialize as hoped after Coleman combined for 960 yards on 116 catches over the last two seasons, notching four receiving touchdowns each season. After notching eight catches on 11 targets, both career highs, in the 2025 season-opening win vs. Baltimore, Coleman recorded more than three receptions just once during the rest of the season while drawing just four targets in the postseason.

Whether Coleman is viewed as a redundant candidate in the wide receiver room is another question given the front office elected to re-sign Treylon Burks, but there's truth that the Commanders could turn to a young option in the trade market with a chance that minimal draft capital is enough to seal the deal.

In the meantime, Washington will turn to its current room of wide receivers with quarterback Jayden Daniels tabbing rookie wide receiver Antonio Williams as a "smooth kid, very crafty within his routes" and tight end Chig Okonkwo as someone who "plays fast." Whether the current room of skill players is enough will remain the biggest question mark for Washington unless another move does materialize as hoped as head coach Dan Quinn looks for efficiency out of the 2026 offense.
