If Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus didn't know that his job was on the line in the final three weeks of the season, he does now.
With the defense again putting on a bad performance in the 34-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings - which also marked the seventh time this season that 30+ points had been allowed by Eberflus' unit - that might have been the straw that broke the camel's back.
With no reason to fire in-season, as that isn't Jerry Jones' style, the billionaire owner made it very clear that these next three games for the Cowboys will play a big role in whether Eberflus returns in 2026.
"I think that should be a big criteria because these three games are vital to us," Jerry said. "How we play over these next few weeks will be a big criteria because I think really we're at one of the peaks of our healthiness right now."
Through 14 weeks, the defense is giving up, on average, 30.0 points per game, which simply isn't good enough.
The constant big plays given up on the ground and through the air have been a problem throughout the season. Also, the miscommunication across all three levels has been glaring.
All of those issues have been happening since Week 1.
Yes, we did have a good three-week stretch where the defense looked competent, but that appeared to be a sugar rush.
Now, with a defense that is the healthiest it's been all year, Jerry's eyes will be firmly locked onto Eberflus' unit in these final three weeks.

Jerry stated the next three weeks will determine Eberflus' future. But if we are being honest, the previous 14 should be major determinants as well.
And if that is the case, there isn't a logical reason as to why Eberflus returns as Dallas' defensive coordinator in 2026.
