Spann-Ford might have his future sorted, but he isn't resting on his laurels.
Dallas Cowboys tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford put pen to paper on a new three-year, $18 million deal this week as the franchise is showing faith in the up-and-coming offensive weapon.
Having been a bit-part player since arriving as an undrafted free agent, his two seasons with the Cowboys have seen him net just 88 and 90 receiving yards in 34 games (five starts).
Spann-Ford's blocking was considered his one-wood in Dallas, with his hulking 6-6, 265lb frame seeing him move people off their spot at will, but his development as a pass-catcher is what has caught our eye, and it appears Dallas' as well.
Having a knack for making a play this offseason in training camp, Spann-Ford entered this offseason as TE3, but it became apparent rather quickly that he was by far a better option both as a blocker and pass-catcher than Luke Schoonmaker.
Now he's TE2.
But after signing his new deal, Spann-Ford isn't too interested in focusing on what he wants to do on a Sunday; he's only focused on one thing -- doing whatever the team needs.
"I feel like right now, it's super hard to look into just what I'm doing," Spann-Ford said. "I got to handle my business on the field, and I'm more focused on winning games, and what I can do to impact our us winning games. I think that would go for anyone in this locker room. It's going to be doing my one of 11 and just bringing the energy every single Sunday."
With the New York Giants first on the schedule, Spann-Ford is expected to see the field often at MetLife Stadium.
Having only played 25 percent of the snaps on offense last year (300), expect Brevyn to see far more work in Brian Schottenheimer's offense in 2026.
With Jake Ferguson taking the majority of reps at tight end, we still expect the Cowboys to use a lot of 12 personnel, meaning a lot of two tight end sets with both Ferguson and Spann-Ford on the field.
It's been a largely positive offseason for the Cowboys and Spann-Ford, and now comes the hard part: justifying the price paid to keep you.
But I'd imagine Spann-Ford will continue to do what he's done since arriving at The Star.
And that's be a player the coaching staff can count on.
