Facing a hostile MetLife Stadium crowd, Dallas must execute flawless complementary football to silence New York’s momentum and avoid self-inflicted wounds in a high-stakes divisional opener.

The Dallas Cowboys could be walking into a buzzsaw on Sunday night at MetLife Stadium as they take on the New York Giants to kick off their season.

A new head coach, fresh optimism, and a quarterback who talks the talk, plus the home crowd, it will be a hostile environment for the Cowboys to deal with straight out of the gate.

So, a fast start to quieten the home crowd early will be the only item on the menu for Dallas.

That means picking up first downs on offense, no penalties, and, on defense, a quick three-and-out to get things started.

For All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb, he knows how crucial starting fast is at MetLife.

"It's going to be important, for us as a team, as a unit, and for what we stand for and what we're trying to believe as far as what we want to achieve," Lamb said. "So, I feel like coming out just not shooting ourselves in the foot. I feel like that's the most important thing. Everything else will play out.

"We'll go out, make routine plays, we play complementary football, and we'll let the rest take care of itself. The stage is already set, so there's nothing much we can do about that, but go out there and show out."

We know how quickly things can spiral if an early turnover happens, or costly penalties can back up the offense, and the home crowd will be making things tough.

But with Dak Prescott, Lamb, Javonte Williams, George Pickens, and Jake Ferguson, the Cowboys have the weapons to start the game fast and put the Giants on the back foot.

Yes, New York will have all the good vibes and excitement as a new era begins under John Harbaugh, but get a quick three-and-out on defense, or march down the field and score a touchdown, and Dallas will put itself in an ideal position.

Of course, it isn't an exact science, but the last thing the Cowboys will want is to hand the Giants, who will be up for this game, a leg up at home, because momentum can be tough to stop.

So, the Cowboys better make sure they are the ones who are quickest out of the starting blocks, otherwise this could be a rather tense night at MetLife.
