Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated Matt Eberflus' job is on the line in the next three weeks, and Brian Schottenheimer is seemingly fine with that.

It's no secret that Matt Eberflus' days as Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator could be numbered.

With his unit being one of the worst in football across 14 weeks, there don't seem to be many logical reasons to bring back Eberflus to spearhead the defense in 2026.

Owner Jerry Jones stated on 105.3 The Fan that Eberflus will have three weeks to coach for his job, which is quite the statement.

To us, nothing that transpires in the next three weeks is going to warrant Eberflus returning, aside from three shutouts. Even then, it's not guaranteed.

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer was asked about Jerry's comments on Eberflus and this three-game stretch that could make or break his future with the team.

"I think at the end of the day, we all understand the business we're in, this is the National Football League,” Schottenheimer said. “I think Flus is a great coach, we have not played well enough in that area. But my biggest thing is I've been Flus. That's part of it. We're used to it.

"So, my job is to help Flus and the entire staff to come up with a great game plan and try to play the best we can these next three weeks.”

The Cowboys are out of playoff contention, and we will see how expansive the scheme and game plan will be now that there is nothing to play for.

And in truth, if the defense suddenly sees an uptick in form with the pressure valve released, it could be argued that would be worse for Eberflus.

    Why?

Because that shows the defense can play well, but for whatever reason it hasn't. It is similar to the initial form surge we see from teams who have an interim head coach.

But it is hard to see such a performance spike from this Dallas defense that has shown for the majority of the year that they're just not a good unit.

And as a result, another coordinator change feels inevitable this offseason.
