The Cowboys have been linked with Caleb Downs in the upcoming NFL Draft, and if they were in love with him before, that's only been enhanced.
The Dallas Cowboys hold two first-round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, and most of us know that the franchise will be looking to add two Day 1 starters to new coordinator Christian Parker's defense.
The 12th overall pick is where all the excitement comes from for Cowboys Nation, as there is a good chance Dallas gets a bona fide "stud", providing nothing silly happens.
The likes of Arvell Reese, David Bailey, Mansoor Delane, Rueben Bain Jr., Sonny Styles, and Caleb Downs are the big-ticket items and players that the Cowboys would love to have on their team.
In reality, some will be off the board by the time Dallas picks at No. 12, so the dance the Cowboys play on draft day will be fascinating to watch.
But when it comes to Ohio State safety Caleb Downs, he is viewed as someone who will come in and be a key contributor to Parker's defense ... if he lasts to No. 12.
However, that might not be possible now if teams hear what Drew Fabianich, the executive director of the Panini Senior Bowl, and a former Cowboys national scout, thinks about Caleb.
Why? Because he's got a huge comparison for Downs.
"He's the closest thing I've seen to Ed Reed since I've been in this," Fabianich exclusively told our own Mike Fisher on the Fish Report. "I mean, they say, "Oh, he's not very productive." You know why? Because he's really damn good. They don't attack him. People don't attack him.
"He affected the game. He just didn't affect it with big plays because, again, he was doing his job so well that you don't even notice it."
The next Ed Reed? A Hall of Famer, a five-time All-Pro, a nine-time Pro Bowler, and a Defensive Player of the Year? Goodness me.
Fabianich knows what he is talking about, having lived in this space for nearly two decades, so when he talks, we take notice.
Downs is elite at processing what is happening in front of him, and once he recognizes what is happening, he shuts the play down. Plus, his outstanding tackling ability and versatility will make him a great fit in Dallas.
But Downs is so good that there are a handful of other teams who could be clamoring to draft him as well.
We often talk about BPA when drafting, and if the next Ed Reed falls to you at No. 12, you run as fast as you can to turn that card in.
